Order Picker + Backup Truck Delivery Driver

ABOUT THE JOB
This is an Order Picker role that provides backup delivery driving when required. There may be advance notice of the scheduling of the different roles, and there may be some spontaneity depending on business needs. The split is about 60-65% Order Picking and 35-40% Driving, over the course of the year. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
ORDER PICKING:

  • Pick products as indicated on individual pick lists (case-sized items).
  • Palletize items as you are picking them, such that they are stable, secure, and well-balanced.
  • Be familiar with warehouse layout, including directional access and location codes.
  • Meet and exceed expectations related to accuracy and productivity.
  • Adhere to safety standards, both in equipment use and in picking procedures.
  • Learn and follow steps to choose correct pallet for different customers.
  • Follow procedures when product is out-of-stock.
  • Place pallets in correct staging area (for QC to check or for shipping).
  • As directed, wrap pallets and prepare for shipping.
  • Complete paperwork as required (pallet tags, tracking paperwork, etc.)
  • Learn and follow spill clean-up procedures.
  • Participate in inventory as required.
  • Assist with general warehouse clean-up/housekeeping.
  • Follow Food Safety and GDP guidelines.

DRIVING:

  • Operate trucks safely under various road and weather conditions, as well as manoeuvre in areas where space is limited. 
  • Exhibit defensive driving at all times, following all safety and traffic regulations.
  • Load the truck in an orderly and efficient fashion, bearing in mind weight distribution, order of deliveries and safety of product. 
  • Use appropriate equipment and supplies to ensure products do not get damaged while in transit (ex., load bars, pallet wrap, bungie cords, rope, etc.).
  • Appropriately use dry ice when transporting frozen items to maintain food safety.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment safely, including, but not limited to, pallet movers, manual pallet jacks, dollies, power tailgate, etc.
  • Work with Accounting, Customer Service, Purchasing and other Warehouse Departments as needed. 
  • Represent Purity Life in a courteous, friendly, and helpful manner; help customers with questions and/or requests.
  • Accurately deliver orders to customers, sometimes via entire pallet and sometimes via dolly.
  • Accept payments and other paperwork from customers, and deliver them to the appropriate department upon return. 
  • Conduct daily pre-use inspections, conduct on-site basic maintenance when applicable, keep interior and exterior of truck clean, report all breakdowns, incidents and accidents immediately.
  • Unload truck at the end of the day, ensuring equipment, product and other supplies are put away in their correct location.
  • Miscellaneous duties could include, but are not limited to: pallet exchange, pick ups, special event driving assistance, training, etc. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS + EXPECTATIONS:

  • High level of physical ability and endurance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, as well as lower weights repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Repeated lifting, bending, twisting, standing, reaching.
  • Attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to work autonomously; be self-directed and complete work independently.
  • Reading comprehension of alphanumeric codes.
  • Food Safety trained.
  • Knowledge of warehouse (distribution) operations and flow.
  • Class 5 license with clean abstract required, Air Brakes ticket optional.
  • At least one year experience with truck deliveries to businesses, at least one year experience order picking with case-sized items

 

COMPENSATION + WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a full-time and permanent position (40 hours/week) with options for overtime as required. The schedule is Tuesday to Saturday (Tuesday-Friday, 7am-3pm, Saturday, 9am-5pm).
The starting rate is $23.10/hour for Order Picking and $24.02/hour for Driving. We provide extended health + dental benefits after 3-months of employment.
